Passing the Cup of Sorrows
William Basinski
October 23, 2026
William Basinski pairs solo piano with quiet electronics in a roughly 40-minute piece influenced by Morton Feldman's irregular patterns. A video about a hypnotherapy ritual of exchanging sorrow and forgiveness supplied the inspiration; the composition turns that emotional response into slow-moving fragments that explore memory, unease and release.
